My Grandpa Oberholtzer turned 80 on October 19, so my mom and aunt honored him by having a few different surprises up their sleeves. My mom and aunt's cousin Mike and his wife Janet (my grandpa's nephew and niece-in-law) flew up from Florida for the weekend. They surprised my grandma and grandpa by showing up at their house on Friday night, and were my grandparents ever excited (once they figured out what was going on!). That was just the start of the surprises for the weekend.
On Saturday, my mom and aunt hosted a luncheon with my grandpa's nieces and nephews from out of town. After the luncheon, they hosted an open house for about 100 guests. Needless to say, my grandpa was a bit overwhelmed by it all.
My grandma and Kara
Two fine hostesses, my aunt on the left and mom on the right (can't tell they're sisters, huh?).
On Sunday morning, we went to church with my parents and then surprised my grandpa with a family brunch at Zehnder's.
Grandpa and his girls
Enjoying mom talk with my sister-in-law Courtney.
My grandpa is a HUGE car guy. If you ever walk through a car show with him, he can point out all of the cars he's owned. As a gift, then, all of the grandkids went in together and got him a model of his 1949 Roadmaster Convertible. Not only is a he a car guy, but he's got a group of buddies that he meets at McDonalds nearly every morning to have coffee with, so in addition to the car, we got him a gift certificate to McDonalds. With the little that he spends, we figure he's good well into the new year!
